Reasoning 9 Important High Level Puzzles Set 4 Asked in Various Exams for IPPB and IDBI


Puzzle 1:

There are six persons A, B, C, D, E and F in school. Each of the teachers teaches two subjects, one compulsory subject and the other optional subject. D’s optional subject was History while three others have it as compulsory subject. E and F have Physics as one of their subjects. F’s compulsory subject is Mathematics which is an optional subject of both C and E. History and English are A’s subjects but in terms of compulsory and optional subjects, they are just reverse of those of D’s. Chemistry is an optional subject of only one of them. The only female teacher in the school has English as her compulsory subject.

Puzzle 2:

Five friends P, Q, R, S and T travelled to five different cities of Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad by different modes of transport of Bus, Train, Aeroplane, Car and Boat from Mumbai. The person who travelled to Delhi did not travel by boat. R went to Bangalore by car and Q went to Kolkata by aeroplane. S travelled by boat whereas T travelled by train. Mumbai is not connected by bus to Delhi and Chennai.

Puzzle 3:

Madan and Rohit are in the same team of hockey. Parth defeated Rohit in badminton but lost to Sachin in tennis. Nitin teams with Sagar in football and with Sachin in hockey. Rohit defeated Sachin in chess. Those who play cricket do not play badminton, volleyball or tennis. Madan and Parth are in opposite teams of basketball. Nitin represents his state in cricket while Sagar does so at the district level. Boys who play chess do not play football, basketball or volleyball. Madan and Parth are together in the volleyball team. Boys who play football also play hockey.

Puzzle 4:

Twelve members of a family are sitting on two apposite sides of rectangular dining table for a dinner. Two parallel rows of chairs containing six people each are set in such a way that there is an equal distance between adjacent persons. In row 1, A, B, C, D, E and F are seated and all of them are facing south. In row 2, P, Q, R, S, T and O are seated and all of them are facing north, but not necessarily in the same order. Each of them likes different types of food, viz Indian, African, English, French, German, Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Spanish, Korean and Russian, but not necessarily in the same order. C, who likes German food, sits third to the left of B. C is not an immediate neighbour of either E or A. P, who likes Korean food, sits third to the right of S. Neither P nor S sits at the extreme ends. E, who likes Indian food, faces the one who likes Mexican food. F, who likes English food, faces O, who sits second to the left of T and does not like French food. T is not an immediate neighbour of S. Only two people sit between Q and T, who like Russian and Thai food respectively. D, likes neither African nor French food who sits on the immediate right of the person who likes German food. A, who likes Chinese food, does not face R. The one who likes Spanish food sits second to the left of the person who faces the one who likes English food.

Puzzle 5:

Eight friends, A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H, are sitting around a square table in such a way that four of them sit on four corners of the square while four sit in the middle of each of the four sides. Each of them likes different motor bikes, viz Avenger, Pulsar, Suzuki, Yamaha, Karizma, Splendour, Apache and Activa. The ones who sit on the four corners face the centre while those who sit in the middle of the sides face outside, but not necessarily in the same order. A, who likes Pulsar, faces the centre and sits third to the right of F. E, who faces the centre, likes Activa and, is not an immediate neighbour of F. Only one person sits between F and G and they like Karizma and Suzuki respectively. D, who does not like Splendour, sits second to the right of B, who likes neither Avenger nor Splendour. D faces the centre. C is not an immediate neighbour of A. H likes Apache.

Puzzle 6:

Six persons, viz Sinha, Saini, Bhagat, Yadav, Gupta and Mishra plan to go to six different hill stations, viz Manali, Kullu, Mussourie, Rishikesh, Shimla and Nainital. They wish to go in six different months, viz January, March, May, June, August and December. Two of them want to travel by bus and two by rail and others are planning to go either by car or by flight. Following information is also given. I. Gupta goes to Manali but neither by air nor by bus. II.Sinha prefers bus journey but travels neither in August nor in May. III. Neither Mishra nor Saini goes either to Shimla or to Mussourie. IV.Rishikesh is visited in December. V. Persons going to Kullu and Shimla go by bus and car respectively. VI.Mr Bhagat goes to Nainital in March by air but Mishra does not travel in December.

Puzzle 7:

There are six boys – Amit, Bhushan, Dhruv, Manoj, Harsh and Arvind. They want to go out with six girls – Neha, Shruti, Kruti, Chanchal, Sujata and Radhika, not necessarily in the same order. The pairs went to a movie, beach, park, play and two of them went to circus. They like different cars, viz Esteem, Matiz, Santro and Tata. But Esteem and Matiz are preferred by two pairs.
Further information is as follows:
I. Amit and Manoj visit circus but do not like either Esteem or Tata.
II. Arvind can’t go out with Sujata. Both of them do not like Santro.
III. Chanchal and Kruti want to go to movie and park respectively.
IV. Dhruv goes out with Radhika to beach but does not like either Matiz or Tata.
V. Bhushan goes for a movie and likes Esteem.
VI. Harsh can’t go out either with Neha or with Shruti and he does not go to a park either in Santro or in Matiz.

Puzzle 8:

Eight teachers P, Q, R, S, T, U, V and W are teaching different subjects viz Electronics, Robotics, Arts, Commerce, Computer, Java, Mechanics and Painting but not necessarily in the same order. All of them are sitting around a circular table but not facing the centre. W sits third to the right of S. P and R and also their immediate neighbors do not teach Electronics. Only one teacher sits between T and the Electronics teacher. Java and Arts teachers are immediate neighbor of each other. P is neither Computer nor Java teacher. Two teachers sit between U and Commerce teacher. U does not teach either Electronics or Arts. P sits third to the left of V. V teaches Robotics. S is not the immediate neighbor of either P or V. The one who teaches Painting is an immediate neighbor of S. Three teachers sit between V and the Mechanics teacher. W is not teaching either Electronics or Painting.

Puzzle 9:

Five friends A, B, C, D and E are working in 5 different Companies P, Q, R, S and T and they earn different salaries i.e. Rs 9000, Rs 12000, Rs 15000, Rs 18000 and Rs 21000 and they all are of different ages i.e. 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 years not necessarily in same order. Person who is 29 year old earns highest salary but does not work at P and Q. E does not work at S and T and his age is not 30. The salary of D is less than Rs 15000. The person who is 27 years old earns Rs 18000 per month. A earns Rs 12000 per month but does not work at Q and S. B works at P and earns more than Rs 15000. Person who is 28 years old works at T. 30 years old person earns at least Rs 15000.
