Reasoning 9 Important High Level Puzzles Set 5 Asked in Various Exams for IPPB and IDBI


Puzzle 1:

Shukla, Mishra, Singh, Kulkarni, Rao, Joshi and Nair are to conduct interviews simultaneously either alone or in pairs at four different locations—Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi and Lucknow. Only one wants to travel by rail, two prefer travelling by car and the rest travel by air. Shukla is going to Lucknow but neither by car nor by air. Mishra prefers to travel by car. Neither Joshi nor Nair is going to Delhi. Only those going to Surat travel by road. Kulkarni will assist his friend Mishra. The two managers who go to Delhi travel by air.

Puzzle 2:

B, M, T, R, K, H and D are travelling in a train compartment with three tier sleeper berth. Each of them has a different profession of Engineer, Doctor, Architect, Pharmacist, Lawyer, Journalist and Pathologist. They occupied two lower berths, three middle berths and two upper berths. B, the engineer, is not on the upper berth. The Architect is the only other person who occupies the same type of berth as that of B. M and H are not on the middle berth and their professions are Pathologist and Lawyer respectively. T is a Pharmacist. D is neither a Journalist nor an Architect. K occupies the same type of berth as that of the Doctor.

Puzzle 3:

Eight people A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H work in three different companies: X, Y and Z. Out of these, two are female who work in different companies and have different specializations. Two of them are specialists in Finance, two in HR, two in Marketing and one each is an Engineer and a Computer Specialist. D, working in a company X has specialized in HR and her friend G, a Finance Specialist is working in company Z. H, an HR specialist, is working with B, a Marketing Specialist and does not work in company Y. C is not a Computer Specialist. No two people with the same specialization work together. F is a specialist in Marketing working in company Y and his friend A has specialized in Finance and is working company X with only one another Specialist. Not more than three of them work in company Z. No female is an Engineer or a Computer Specialist.

Puzzle 4:

L, N, P, R, M, Q, T and Y are the members of a committee sitting around a circular table but not facing the centre. Each member has a different zodiac sign, viz Leo, Virgo, Libra, Cancer, Aries, Gemini, Pisces and Scorpio, but not necessarily in the same order. T is third to the right of P. The one whose sun-sign Leo is second to the left of the one whose sunsign is Libra. Y's sun-sign is Libra and is sitting exactly between P and L. The one whose sun-sign is Pisces sits second to the right of N. The one whose sun-sign is Aries is second to the right of the person whose sun-sign is Gemini. P sits third to the left of the person whose sun-sign is Virgo. Neither Q nor L is the immediate neighbour of N. Q is fourth to the left of L. N's sun-sign is neither Cancer nor Ariel. The person whose sun-sign is Leo is sitting second to the right of the person whose sign is Cancer. R’s sun-sign is Leo and is not an immediate neighbor of N.

Puzzle 5:

(i) Seven persons A, B, C, D, E, F and G are teaching seven subjects History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology and English from Monday to Friday. Each person teaches a different subject and not more than two subjects are taught on any one of the days.
(ii) Chemistry is taught by B on Tuesday.
(iii) D teaches on Friday but neither Geography nor Physics.
(iv) F teaches History but neither on Thursday nor on Friday.
(v) A teaches English on the day on which History is taught.
(vi) C teaches Maths on Monday.
(vii) Geography and Chemistry are taught on the same day.
(viii) G teaches on Thursday

Puzzle 6:

In row 1, J, K, L and M are sitting and all of them are facing north. In row 2, A, B, C and D are sitting and all of them are facing south. Therefore, in the given seating arrangement each member sitting in a row faces another member of the other row. (All the information given above does not necessarily represent the order of seating as in the final arrangement.)
• The person from Infosys faces the one who is on the immediate left of L. L is neither from Google nor from Facebook.
• An immediate neighbour of A faces the person from Accenture. The person from Microsoft faces the person who is on the left of the person from Google.
• There is only are person sitting between the persons from Google and TCS but that person is not J. The persons from Google and Facebook are not sitting at the extreme ends.
• B sits on the immediate left of the person from Infosys. Persons from IBM and Microsoft are immediate neighbours. C and K are not sitting at any of the ends.
• M faces the one who is sitting on the immediate right of the person from Microsoft. A is not from Microsoft or IBM.

Puzzle 7:

Eight friends—Aman, Bharat, Rohit, Dinesh, Ishant, Farhan, Aditya and Hirender—are sitting around a circular table, facing the centre but not necessarily in the same order. Each of them has a different designation, viz Banker, Teacher, Company MD, Politician, Corporate Leader, General Manager, Specialist Officer and CEO. Aman sits third to the right of the CEO. Only two people sit between the CEO and Hirender. The Specialist Officer and the Company MD are immediate neighbours. Neither Aman nor Hirender is either a Specialist Officer or a Company MD. The Specialist Officer is not an immediate neighbour of the CEO. The Banker sits second to the left of Ishant. Ishant is not an immediate neighbour of Hirender. The Banker is an immediate neighbour of both the Politician and the Corporate Leader. The Corporate Leader sits third to the right of Bharat. Bharat is not a Specialist Officer. Rohit sits on the immediate right of the Teacher. Aman is not a Teacher. Farhan is not an immediate neighbour of Aman. Aditya is not an immediate neighbour of the Banker.

Puzzle 8:

A committee has nine members A, B, C, D, E. F. G, H and I and it is divided into three groups, viz Play group, Entertainment group and Food group — with three members in each group. There are certain conditions for the formation of the groups. Only three members will be selected in each group. One person cannot be selected for more than one group. A is in the Play group. H is in the Entertainment group. C and D are in the same group but not in the group of I. A and B are not in the same group. E is not in the same group as I but is in the Food group. F is in the group in which either H or B or both of them are present. I and H are not in the same group. F is neither with E nor with I.

Puzzle 9:


Six persons A, B, C, D, E and F are sitting in row - I facing South but not necessarily in the same order and each of them is working in a different company among Microsoft, Amazon, TCS, SAPIENT , HDFC and Axis. Six persons P, Q, R, S, T and U are sitting in row - II facing north but not necessarily in the same order and each of them is working in a different company among Google, Infosys, Accenture, IBM, Capital One and ICICI. Each person in one row faces exactly one person from the other row. A is third from the left end and is opposite the person who is to the immediate right of the IBM employee. The IBM employee is opposite the person who is to the immediate left of the TCS employee. The Google employee and the SAPIENT employee sit at right ends in their respective rows. C is a SAPIENT employee, and is adjacent to E. D sits opposite Q and to the left of A but does not sit at any extreme. B is not adjacent to D but opposite P. The ICICI employee sits neither at an end nor opposite A, but sits to the right of P. The Accenture employee is adjacent to neither the Infosys employee nor the Capital One employee. S sits at an end. R is opposite the Amazon employee but sits at neither end. T is opposite the HDFC employee and the Microsoft employee is second to the right of the Axis employee. The Capital One employee is not adjacent to P.
